The vision for the Lumsden Creek

As well as starting a community nursery, The Northern Southland Reforestation Trust has a vision of planting out the banks of the creeks around Lumsden.

You will have seen that we have started planting alongside the creek by the old railway bridge.  The plants have really started taking off and there have been very few that haven’t managed to survive the winter.

The exciting news is that we now have approval to plant alongside the creek that heads down Lydia Street and we have plans for an area where you can sit and enjoy being a part of nature. We need to clear the area first and then have a big working bee to plant lots of natives and set up an area with seating and spots to encourage the birds.  It’s going to look amazing and we really appreciate that the council is allowing us to look after this spot of land.

The Plant Lovers’ Social Group

Come join us at our Plant Lovers’ Social Group nursery sessions. While the idea is that you help with weeding, repotting, pricking out etc, you are also more than welcome to just come and chat with others and enjoy the fresh air. We need lots of helpers at our nursery sessions so that the plants grow and we can then start planting again in the Autumn.
